recently. New TPS Chair, Midge Lester, has recently taken over
and is working with Sue Piper in Jean Quan's office on updates.)

Accomplishments
since last report:
- Continued
processing of MSIC TPST Questionnaire data
- Elaine Geffen
contacted the Pershing Neighborhood Group (Korki Brett) to include
them in coordinating all activities within TPST (I contacted Roger
Brett as well in passing)
- Removed
Keep Kids Alive, Drive 25 signs throughout Montclair school complex
areas, distributed some to other neighborhood organizations for
loan
- Safety repair
request to PWA for Lower Merriewood Stairs filed last month fulfilled
by PWA
- Continued
monthly meeting with District 4/TPST/PWA regarding overall PWA
communication issues
- Contacted
Luis Freeze, established reasons for the School Facilities not
contacting MSIC during the Montera/Joaquin Miller construction
this summer, received promise of incorporation in all future traffic
and pedestrian safety issues associated with schools facilities
in future
Work
in progress:
- Continued
preparation of new section of MSIC TPST web site: Projects Done,
Projects Underway, and Upcoming Projects
- Continued
data entry on MSIC TPST Questionnaire (East Side), continued preparation
of a new MSIC TPST Questionnaire (West Side) with additional page
for west side traffic/pedestrian issues
- Continued
evaluation of effectiveness of the Mountain/Cabot intersection
new infrastructure (are pedestrians safer?)
- Continued
prioritization of TPST issues list, new development of a monthly
TPST issues list to PWA (3 projects)
- Negotiation
with the four public schools PTA/PFC & school staffs for MSIC
Driver Education flyer approval for text and methodology of distribution
(goal is for schools to print and distribute, Joaquin Miller has
agreed already, Montclair has agreed already, and Thornhill has
agreed already…only Montera to resolve.)
- Meeting
on the El Caminito/Camino Lenada/La Questa traffic situation,
with coordination with Piedmont Pines NA to happen in December,
2004 (not yet defined). As a result of this meeting, develop firm
proposed plan for the El Caminito/Camino Lenada/La Questa traffic
situation, in coordination with Piedmont Pines NA (speed bumps,
additional one-way designations, new no parking zones, improvements
to crosswalk access, etc.)
- Coordinate
a new visit to Joaquin Miller Elementary School with various TPST
personnel, District 4 staff, school staffs, OPD Officers Schmitt
& Ansthorpe, and various parents, major issue to determine
appropriate process for education of driving parents leading towards
traffic enforcement (ticketing)
- Coordinate
a new visit to Montera Middle School with various TPST personnel,
District 4 staff, school staffs, OPD Officers Schmitt & Ansthorpe,
and various parents, major issues to discuss is how to limit Montera
traffic in Joaquin Miller traffic circle, and to determine appropriate
process for education of driving parents leading towards traffic
enforcement (ticketing)
