Endorsements
Policy
- All requests for endorsements
must:
- Have a direct
relation to the mission statement of the MSIC
- Concern Oakland
Montclair District in order to garner an opinion/approval.
- Not be for political
candidates
- The Endorsements
Committee arranges presentation of both sides of an issue if all
guidelines in #1 are met.
- Once proposed and
presented, endorsements are tabled for 2 weeks to allow discussion
among Steering Committee members. Organizations should allow for
a window of discussion before expecting a response.
- All endorsements
must be approved by a majority vote of the Steering Committee
to be approved. E-mail voting is acceptable.
- The level to which
MSIC receives publicity regarding endorsements will be decided
on a case-by-case basis, and under the following guidelines:
- Only MSIC-approved
endorsements may carry the name of the organization or an
affiliation with MSIC; all other endorsements must be clearly
stated as “speaking as private citizen.”
- All reporters
are to be given a written statement, spelling out either “this
is an MSIC- endorsed position,” or, “this is a personal position
and is not to include reference in any way to MSIC.” In no
case is it to be left to the reporter to get it right.
