Postal Collection Boxes Installed in Montclair
Use Them or Lose Them!
In
response to the persistence of residents like Chuck Harrison,
members of the MSIC Mail Theft Team (especially Robbie Neely
and Jim Dexter), and Jean Quan's office (especially Richard Cowen),
the greater Montclair area is now sporting several additional
secure USPS collection boxes. The first went up in January 2004
at Mountain and Colton (at the tennis courts). This
drive-up box is going a long way toward alleviating parking and
traffic congestion in front of the Montclair post office branch.
Collection times are at 2:45 PM and 5:00 PM Monday - Friday,
and at 2:30 PM on Saturday.
In
mid-April 2004 a box was installed in front of the 7-Eleven
store on Thornhill Drive. Space didn't permit
a drive-up box, but there is a slot for passenger side use. Collection
time is at 1:30 PM Monday - Saturday.
This box was hit by a vehicle in February 2006 and
removed for repair. It was returned to service in May 2006.

boxes currently available to hills residents include:
- 1 Sheridan
Road at Broadway Terrace to the west of 13 (1 box )

Kudos to David
Green of the USPS for being so instrumental in responding to
our needs and making these new boxes happen!
USE
IT OR LOSE IT. That's the motto MSIC is using to caution
residents that if we don't use these new boxes, the USPS will
be justified in removing them.
The volume of mail being dropped off at each of these boxes is
being monitored closely. We are working with the USPS to help get
the word out through the Montclarion, fliers and signs. You can
help by letting your friends and neighbors know about the new boxes.
Let's not lose them now that we finally have them installed!
